1.        Find 12% of 7.5 m.

Answer: 12% of 7.5 m = 12% × 7.5 m = 0.9 m

2.      A family go on a skiing holiday to America.

a)                 The hotel has 840 rooms.

735 rooms are occupied.

Calculate the percentage of rooms that are occupied.

Answer:  (735/840) × 100% = 87.5%

b)        A ski lift when full takes 4000 passengers per hour.

This lift works for 10 hours a day.

One day this lift is 90% full for 3 hours and 75% full for 7 hours.

Work out the number of passengers who take the lift that day

Answer: 90% × 4,000 × 3 + 75% × 4,000 × 7 = 10,800 + 21,000 = 31,800 passengers

 

 

3.      A mobile phone shop sold 21 mobile phones a day. This is 40% below the daily target. What is the target number of mobile phone to be sold a day?

Answer:  (100 – 40)% × 21 = 60/100 × 21 = 12,6 = 13

4.      Jed sells desserts for $24 each. Each dessert costs $12.80 to make.

a)   Work out his percentage profit.

Answer:

Given CP =$12.80;  SP = $24

Profit = SP – CP

Profit = $24 – $12.80

Profit = $ 11.20

Profit % = (profit/CP) × 100

Profit % = (11.20/12.80) × 100%

Profit % = 87.5%

 

b)   The cost to make each dessert increases to $13.60. Jed wants to make the same percentage profit. Work out the new selling price.

Answer:

87.5 % = (profit/CP) × 100%

87.5 % = (profit/$13.60) × 100%

Profit = (87.5 × $13.60)/100

Profit = $11,9

$11,9  = SP – $13.60

SP = $25.5

 

 

5.      Matthew spent 25% of the money he had on magazines and 60% of the remaining money on novel. If he then had $7.50 left, how much did he spend on the novel?

Answer:

If total sum of money he had is a

He had $7.50 left

$7.50 = (100 – 25 – 60)% × a

$7.50 = 15% × a

        a = $50

The money he spend on the novel is:

60% × a = 60% × $50 = $30
